Hut Based
Stay in Huts
3 days and 2 nights in a Hut
Choose one of two huts for your guided backcountry eco-adventure;
1. Wates-Gibson at Outpost Lake in the world famous Tonquin
Valley. This beautiful log cabin built in 1963, accommodates up to 30
people. A splendid hike with a lighter pack and all the camping comforts
of a rustic log cabin nestled beside an alpine lake in the heart of Jasper
National Park.
Rating: Moderately strenuous (gentle grades on a rough trail surface, roots and rocks).
Distance: 17 km/11.2 mi with 200 m/650 ft. vertical gain;
2. Sydney Valance Hut in the Fryatt Valley. It's
a long haul but well worth it, believe me! The hut is
newly renovated - 4 years ago - and situated in an
alpine meadow surrounded by huge quartzite peaks
named after some important people of the Second
World War.
Rating: Strenuous
Distance: 16 km/10 mi and 825 m/2700 ft vertical gain
These huts are operated by the Alpine Club of Canada. A common, fully equipped cooking and eating area along with a loft for sleeping (with foam mattresses) is provided in these huts. They have a lounge area with a wood burning stove or fireplace for heating, classic alpine accommodation at its finest.
Your guide will prepare gourmet meals, provide professional interpretation of the cultural heritage, natural history, ecology, geology, glaciology, flora, fauna and the inside scoop on local issues as we use only accredited MPHIA interpreters. Also in keeping with our high standards and National Parks' licensing requirements, we employ trained and certified ACMG Backpacking Guides to assure our guests are provided with a high quality, safe and informative eco-adventure.
Your pack will be lighter than an overnight trip with a tent as the
hut also comes
equipped with all of the cooking equipment and eating utensils. All you'll
really need to
bring is what you normally would take on a day trip, a sleeping bag and
your toothbrush
and, "oh ya, your camera eh!" We provide the rest, relaxation & enjoyment,
you're on a
marmot -like- vacation.
